WORK PACKAGE EXECUTION

BACKGROUND

WTG locations submitted with permitting applications are often sited with preliminary data which potentially will deliver less than optimum wind production and unnecessary additional costs for BOP design.

Forte’s Micrositing service identifies optimal locations for wind production and seeks BOP cost optimisation while staying within permitting, environmental and other constraints. Wind production at the proposed new locations are modelled using multiple potential WTG models to provide quality input into the WTG model selection process

CLIENT PROCUREMENT & KICK-OFF

1) Sign a) multiple work package (“EPC Manager”) contract or b) single-work package contract with Forte.
2) Issue all required information to commence survey
3) Arrange all accesses to survey areas with landowner

SCOPE

1. Wind Value Engineering (Desk Study)

This includes:

  • Permitted Locations: Review and verification of wind measurements, existing energy yield estimates (P50, P90, gross production, losses etc.) for shortlisted WTGs.
  • Alternative Locations: Energy yield estimates (P50, P90, gross production and all considered losses) for proposed configurations to improve production

 

2. Design Value Engineering (Desk Study)

  • The permitted design is examined to identify potential for reduced BOP works and verifies the suitability of the alternative locations from the wind value engineering.
  • Maps (geotechnical, topographical) will be interpreted in combination with the permitted wind farm design.
  • Identification of likely existing ground conditions and risk mitigation strategy
  • Obvious unfavourable areas are highlighted and avoided in the future work.

 

3. Civil and Turbine Model Micrositing (Site Visit)

  • Required to confirm suitability of the proposed turbine positions identified in steps 1 & 2.
  • Verification of alternative locations will consider the following constraints: building permit and turbine supplier constraints, earthworks mass balance, tip height limit, noise, shadow flicker, radio links etc.
  • Based on the site visit findings of the optimum locations are identified for final analysis.

 

4. Wind Production update using multiple WTG models (Desk Study)

  • Using optimised locations updated energy yield assessments are calculated.
  • The updates will use existing wind data to prepare an energy yield assessment for each of the Wind Turbine Models being considered.

 

5. Civil and Electrical Layout Concepts (Desk Study)

  • This is a limited study aiming at updating the permitted wind farm BOP layouts.
  • In absence of detailed survey data and preferred WTG model layouts remain preliminary
  • Provides updated concept layouts and preliminary cost estimates for optimised locations.

In-progress Memos and detailed micrositing report containing the following:

  • Wind Value Engineering Memo: Assessment of existing wind studies plus energy yields for shortlisted WTGs at permitted and selected alternative locations
  • Design Value Engineering: Assessment of site design optimisations, proposed locations for micrositing inspection.
  • Micrositing Memo: Brief summary of site visit findings and identifying optimised locations
  • Wind Report Update Using Optimised Turbine Locations: Updated Energy Yields using multiple WTGs at optimised WTG locations
  • Option –Financial Modelling Data: BOP and WTG Capex and Opex Input Data

√ Result: Maximise energy yield and lower Cost of Energy while respecting civil and environmental constraints.
